The girls slept in the fort they made over the weekend. Even though it was a school night tonight, I told them they could sleep in it, as long as they had good behavior. And good behavior they had. I took this picture on my cell phone. By the time I got my good camera they had already shifted positions. But they fell asleep holding hands!

Lingering Parents
We're in the paper again....
(unfortunately they spelled Amelia's name wrong)
We are indeed the "lingering parents". Our friends and the staff at Destin Elementary are teasing us saying the school is going to take out a restraining order out on us. :)
We really like everyone we have met at the school so far. The principal is great! William already knew her, which is always a plus. Her son went to school with William's brother, Lawrence, and Abigail's PE teacher was William's football coach when he was in high school.
I hope they really don't mind us being around, as we plan on being up there a LOT.

A Little Too Literal
The Details...
A few things I do know:
Amelia goes to PreK from 8:25 till 11:55 Mon-Fri. She does not eat lunch there or take a nap.
She'll eat lunch with me (and sometimes Dad!) everyday. I get a few hours of just "Amelia and Me" time now. Something I have never had before and I already really like it.
On her first day she sang a few songs, colored pictures, played on the playground and learned how to say water, the letter R and I love you in sign language.
Abigail goes to Kindergarten from 8:25 till 2:55 (a very long day). I'll pack her a lunch everyday, but she does have the cafeteria option if there was something she really wanted. She has a naptime, but it is just a quiet rest for a "medium" amount of time. I don't have her curriculum yet, but she did tell us she has "something called maybe P E ??" where she's learning the chicken dance. :)

Cause Of Discourse
These are cute shoes, right? I thought so. Unfortunately Abigail wasn't so fond of them.
We went to the shoe store today to pick out some good "playground shoes" for school. Nothing fancy, just a pair of shoes she could really play in. Ones that wouldn't show dirt too much and ones that would be easy to wash when they did get dirty. I picked only two shoes for Abigail to try one, the pair above and another Merrell sneaker. The second shoe happened to be all pink, but not nearly as easy to get on her foot. There were no laces, straps or a zipper, more of a slip on shoe that didn't slip on easily at all. Of course Abigail wasn't concerned about practicality at all, she only cared about the color and was livid with me for even thinking about getting her grey shoes. She went into a little tirade informing me "that grey has been my worst color all the days of my life" and "if you buy me those shoes, I'm just going to freak out every time you put them on me."
I bought the grey shoes.
I'll spare the details from the rest of our shoe shopping experience, where Abigail stopped being witty and only slightly fresh to being just plain ugly. I left the store quite embarrassed.
We talked about the things on the car ride home and came to an understanding. (Abigail has always been able to reason, sometimes it just takes a while to get there). She was kind enough to apologize for her behavior and told me she loved me, "even if you did buy me ugly grey shoes."
Do They Even Make A Chart For That?

Preschool Orientation
I have gone back and forth worrying if I've done the right thing by putting her in preschool. Abigail never went (obviously) and I don't want Amelia to think that she needed to go when her sister didn't. I'm hoping it will be an easier transition (for all of us) for the girls to both go to school at the same time but if Amelia doesn't enjoy it we won't make her go. From her reaction last night I think she's going to really like it.
Little Miss Independent didn't even want want hold our hand as she walked into the school. She followed the signs right up to her new class room. Outside the room on the wall there was a board with all the kids names on it.
She found her name out of the 18 students.
She instantly warmed up to the female teacher Mrs. Kersanac (there's two teachers, a boy and girl). She told her she knew how to write her name and sat right down and showed her.
The teachers talked a bit, mostly to the parents explaining things, but they did have all the kids sit down while they read a story to them. Mr. Thurman, the male teacher, sang a song to them. He has an extensive background in music and we've heard great things about him.
Her best friend Zari is also in her class!
