Big Kahuna's

We got our season passes to Big Kahuna's today. That's the local water park. The girls really love it there. They have a lot of stuff for little ones all the way up to slides for the more daring.

It's time for swimming lessons. They have both gotten really brave! They dunk their heads under, hold their breath, paddle, the works. There are a few pools here just their height. It's the perfect antidote to a hot Florida day!

As Per Abigail's Request

Abigail has been very curious about plants lately. She impresses me with how much she knows and how quickly she learns new ones. We were driving around last night and she spotted this tree. I told her I thought it was a Sumac but couldn't give her a definite answer, so she said "Mom, take a picture and put it on the blog so Nanny can see it. Nanny knows all different plants."

"Food Deliveries Are Fun"

Our second week of produce was just as exciting as the first. Everything looks great, even the white things (though none of us know what they are). Abigail thought maybe it was Horseradish and I guessed white carrots??? Amelia wouldn't humor us with a guess.

It's Not Easy Being Clean

Even if the box says so, not all markers are washable. After two hours of playing in the turtle pool water and a bath later, Amelia's hands still have a pink hue to them.

Memorial Day Weekend

We took Papa's boat out for the first time this year. The weather was perfect for it and the water was crystal clear. The girls also wore their new blue dresses for the first time. Yes, the dresses have no pink in them and yes, those are lobsters! We saw a few dolphin and lots of fish. There was even an ice cream boat. The girls got the biggest Popsicles I've ever seen. They did a little bit of swimming with life jackets and later, Dad kayaked both the girls to the shore to do some more playing in the water. By the end of the day the girls were both very tired. Abigail even fell asleep.

Friends

I can take a walk with a friend
Along a winding trail
It can take me places I've never been
An unfolding fairytale

I can look for creatures with a friend
All the way down by the dock
And wish the day would never end
My day with a broken clock

Necessity is the Mother of Invention

Abigail came downstairs after tending to her imaginary garden announcing that she now has an Innovationor. An Innovationor is a machine that gives her everything she needs for her plants.

Ficus Stylus

These girls have definitely got a sense of humor.

Healthy Eats

I may be wrong in thinking that there are not very many three and four year olds asking for sunflower sprouts as a snack. I love that both girls eat so well and I really am proud of them for being so adventurous with the foods they try.

I think Amelia looks so much like Mom in the last picture.

Eggplant Blossom

Fooddelivery

This is our first delivery from offthevineproduce.com. We met the owner at our local farmer's market and decided to try it out. They deliver organic fruits and vegetables weekly down here. They try their best to buy from local producers.
The girls had been really excited about it for the last couple of days. Abigail initially boycotted breakfast, saying she was holding out until our "fooddelivery" (oneword) got here. I wasn't certain that our order was filled or when it would get here so I thought it best to call and check in with them. I reached the owner by phone and told her that my 3 and 4 year old daughters are asking every five minutes when their fooddelivery was going to arrive. She got quite a kick out of the story, and let me know that it would be there between 12:00 and 1:00. As promised, it arrived prompty at 12:15.

As soon as they got it all unloaded, they called me at work to list everything we had received. "We got this. And this. This. This. And that. That. And this," Amelia told me via telephone. Abigail was a bit more specific, listing each item. She told me we got scallions four times. I think she was just having fun saying the word scallion. (I have to admit it is kind of fun.) Half of my team at work was listening on the speakerphone and loved hearing the excitement in their voices. We intend to be weekly customers from now on.

Lug Bug

Right now the Love Bugs are out in Florida. Amelia calls them Lug Bugs. For those of you that don't know, these bugs are quite friendly with each other. Hence the name.

She saw a pair of them stuck together today and said to Abigail, "I figured it out, the lug bugs have two heads."

A Turtle Pool Day

Too windy today for the sand and crustacean
Too nice to stay out of the sun's radiation
Drove to the store to get some inspiration
For something to avoid the daily altercation
After looking around and some deliberation
Bought a pool that caused much celebration
Blew the pool up and found just the location
For the girls to play and use their imagination
While I got some sun and much needed relaxation

Sidewalk Chalk is Very Serious Work

Amelia drew this balloon on the driveway for her stuffed dog Ginger. She worked really hard, and was determined to get the entire balloon colored in, even though it was very exhausting. (Daddy did help her a little bit.)

Preschool Potential?

While driving around Destin looking at houses today, we found this great playground. Abigail liked it so much she decided this was where she wanted to go to preschool. Abigail's prerequisites for a school were: a good playground, one that allowed her to bring Bunny, and one where she was able to pick her own snacks, such as "stir-fry, fruit, a juice box and a bottle of water."Amelia was a little nervous about climbing up the giant rock, but had no fear of heights on the swing as she begged Daddy to push her higher.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Abigail talking about her imaginary garden she planted in her room last night.

"I think they grew. I have one Rose and some Daylilies. And one lonely plant. I'm gonna plant him some friends. Maybe I'll plant a Jasmine. It might grow 20 lbs or maybe 60. I'm going to get a Hydrangea and some fruit trees at the flower store. I think I'll go to the vegetable and fruit store. I think maybe they'll have some on sale for 20 bucks. "

Blogging About Being on the Blog

Amelia took this picture today while I was putting pictures of her on the blog. I haven't put any pictures of me on the blog and if you ask Abigail why, she'll tell you it's because I have braces. Abigail thinks she's quite funny. We think she is too.

Guinness

Amelia was playing dentist here with Guinness. He's such a good dog. The kids could do anything to him and he wouldn't care. After a brief exam, he was cavity-free.

The auditory examination came next. Guinness has lost a bit of hearing, mostly from the frequent ear infections and his distinguished service in World War II. He still growls at those "Japs" as he calls them. We tell him you're not supposed to call them that, but you just can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Say cheese! Only one of them did, and it was the one that drools a lot and rolls around in the grass. In other words, Amelia.

First Tomato

This is our first Amelia tomato. We read that you need to water them a little less than we were. So, after no watering for a couple of days, then tons of rain, we have a new tomato. It's probably coincidence.

This One Goes Out to Kimmy

We did a little shopping this morning and found some cute summer shirts. While trying on the clothes Abigail said to me, " Mom, I really like this shirt, but I don't think we should bring it to Maine. Kimmy will be scared of it."

For anyone who doesn't know this story, last summer while in Maine, Kim told Abigail she was afraid of the lemons in Nanny's garage and Abigail has not forgotten it. It's her little mnemonic device for remembering which sister she is.
