No Excuse

I don't have an excuse for not blogging this Summer. We really haven't done much... The girls have been total homebodies!! We've been invited on countless play dates, swim dates and movie outings, but the girls just want to stay home. They've played in their playroom and swam in the pool. But mostly they've colored, and colored and then colored some more. Those kids LOVE to draw! I joke and say we're single handedly destroying the rain forests with the amount of paper they use.
I have barely taken any pictures this Summer :( Here's just a couple of random ones.

Last Of The Junie B's

Abigail finished the very last Junie B. Jones books today!

She's read the entire series (27 books) and is now ready to move on to the The Magic Tree House!

A Little Phone Shy

The girls uncle Colton called them tonight to ask a few questions about a Mario game they've all been playing . They really don't talk on the phone that much... prefering to text like their Mom. ;) . Abigail stood in front of the mirror the whole time, while Amelia chose to sit in the hallway. It cracked me up to watch them

Good Night, I Love You, Have Sweet Dreams

There is a definite routine to putting the girls to bed. After brushing teeth and reading books, Will and I tuck the girls in. We pile all six of Abigail's bunnies up next to her and cover her with her blanket. We give Amelia her "perfect spread" and make sure Hedgefund is tucked just so (head inside the little pocket of his blankie so he can sleep). Then the lights go out. And then we give a few more "one more" kisses and hugs. Lately Amelia has added "Good night, I love you, have sweet dreams" into the repertoire. She says it to me, then Abigail and then Will. And once we all say it back, verbatim, she falls asleep.

A Touch Of The OCD Perhaps?

Just one set of the many sheets of school work Abigail has done for her stuffed animal students.

Both girls has been reading so much lately. It used to be at bedtime I'd read them a story, now each night they pick a book and read on their own.
Abigail is BIG into Junie B Jones, having already finished the whole Kindergarten series and is now halfway through the first grade ones. Amelia has finished all the BOB books and a bunch of beginning readers. Lately she has been reading Dr. Sues. After finishing up a few pages from Put Me In The Zoo, I asked her what her Kindergarten teacher was gonna think when she found out how well she could read. Abigail answered for her in her typical witty way with, "OMG!".

July 4th

As soon as the girls woke up they started singing Amelia's infamous "I love fourf of July song". They got dressed in red, white and blue and then we headed to Papa's (Will's dad) house. After a full day of swimming, eating and playing with cousins, we all went out on the boat to watch the fireworks. Papa anchored the boat so close to where they were launching the fireworks. It's definitely the closest we've been to fireworks, perhaps a little too close for the girls liking...
On the boat ride back home Amelia was very thirsty, and having not packed our own cooler all that was on the boat was soda. After some serious begging, I let Amelia have a Sprite. After a few sips she started singing "I love Sprite" to the tune of "I love fourf of July"!!

Sad Day

I have a tendency to only blog about the good... the cute, the funny, positive things. And as much as I shelter my kids, Guinness is living forever remember ;), not talking to them about the Gulf oil spill wasn't realistic. We live at the beach! They don't watch the news, and I told them only what I thought a 6 and 5 year old needed to know. I've shown them a few pictures and we went down to the beach in Fort Walton last week when oil washed ashore there. They asked some questions and they both understood how sad it was. Amelia was especially concerned about the animals. Just the other day they were playing in the bathtub "rescuing" their toys from the oil.

We haven't been to our own beach at all the last two weeks. I wasn't crazy about letting them swim in the water even though there wasn't any visible oil . That was, until today......

Today was the first day of Summer Vacation! Woohoo! The girls didn't get out of jammies all day. Ironically, they spent most of the day playing school.

Pre-K "Gradulation"

Amelia's class had a mini graduation today. All the kids received a diploma, but they also received a certificate for something they excelled at throughout the year. Amelia's was for her artwork!

It's been a while since I've done one of these (or any blog posts for that matter). I never claimed to be consistent.

Mayfest

Abigail's school had Mayfest (sort of like field day) today. All 8 kindergarten classes and parents participated.

The highlight of the day was the musical they did. Abigail was front and center stage! :) The music teacher picked a few kids from each class to hold props for the songs. Abigail was duck number 2. She sat with perfect posture, sang every song and smiled the whole time! Of course my battery in the camera died right before it started. Luckily a friend took some pictures and a video for me.

Art Show

Abigail's painting was chosen for the County Art Show. As you can see, she was quite proud. Mom and Dad were proud too! There were only two kids from her class that were picked!

It was a watercolor depicting her interpretation of a book she had read about the circus.

Another Year, Another Auction, Another Bunny?!

I don't what the chances of finding another bunny in the annual charity auction that we go to are, but Abigail found one and was determined to win it. Luckily she only had one other person bidding against her. When the lady saw who she was bidding against she quickly stopped. We got the bunny at a fair price. ;)

Amelia on the other hand, found a beautiful (wink wink) glass fish sculpture that she had to have. "It goes with our beach house perfectly" she said. We told her she could bid on it. Unbeknownst to us, it was also being auctioned off with a strand of pearls! There were quite a few people bidding along with her, but in the end she won! We didn't get out of that one that cheap, but all the money goes to charity so we didn't mind. :)

Happiest At The Beach

My mom gave me this rose almost six years ago. It's called Seven Sisters and it has never bloomed, until now! We were all pretty surprised and excited to see the pink petals. It's called Seven Sisters because it's supposed to have multiple shades of pink flowers. There's a whole bunch of buds on it, so we'll just have to wait and see.
